OCHS Hires Executive Director

The Oregon Coast Humane Society has announced that they have found a new Executive Director.  Mark Curran officially stepped into the role on Saturday, January 12th.  Curran comes to the shelter with more than a decade of leadership experience in animal rescue and more than 15 years as a corporate executive.  Board President Shauna Robbers says the entire board is “excited to support this important step forward” and that they are confident that they have found the right person for the position.  OCHS is planning an open house to formally introduce Curran to the community.  Curran’s family is in the process of relocating to Florence.

Deadwood Man Arrested on Texas Warrant

A man wanted on charges of child abuse in Texas was arrested in Reedsport on Tuesday.  40 year old Brian Edward Smith of Deadwood was pulled over by Douglas County Sheriff’s on a minor vehicle infraction and initially gave a false name and date of birth with no identification.  The deputy detained Smith and eventually located a wallet verifying his identification.  Smith had a warrant out for his arrest on charges of child abuse and indecency with a child.  Smith is being held in the Douglas County Jail awaiting extradition.

Winter Music and Arts

The Winter Music Festival kicks off next weekend in Florence.  Next Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Florence event Center will feature eclectic artist with highlights of folk, pop, bluegrass and gospel.  Founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band John McEuen and the String Wizards perform as Saturday night’s headliner. And many popular favorites from previous years will be on stage throughout the day on Saturday.  Additionally on Saturday and Sunday the Florence Regional Arts Alliance will have over 30 booths featuring regional artists displaying art from many different mediums.  Tickets are available at the Florence Event Center and at eventcenter.org.

Community Job Fair

Three Rivers Casino Resort is gearing up to offer the 4th annual Community Job Fair.  The event is slated for March 7th.  Three Rivers Casino is currently looking for potential employers to hold a booth at the fair and will have over 40 businesses represented.  Businesses that are interested in participating in the event have until February 8th to register and can contact Pam Hickson at Three Rivers Casino Resort for information.
