Winter Weather Another Day

Siuslaw School district along with Mapleton School District and Reedsport will all begin classes after a two hour delay this morning due to the possibility of icy roads.  Cold weather and icy conditions continue to plague the Florence area.  Overnight an icy mix dropped in the area leaving some roads covered with patches of ice.  Showers are expected to continue throughout the day with temperatures warming to the mid 40’s but overnight tonight temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20’s which could make for an even more dangerous commute on Wednesday.  Temperatures hovered around the freezing mark last night.  Greg Wood with the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw says the cold weather shelter will open again this evening for those needing protection from the freezing temperatures.

Weather a Likely Factor in Accident Death

Speed and road conditions are the likely cause of a crash in North Bend yesterday morning that took the life of 58 year old Susan Dixon of North Bend and a 10 year old passenger.  The Register Guard reported that 36 year old Jesse Praus of North Bend was heading north in a 1999 Ford f-150 when it lost control and crossed the center line striking Dixon’s Ford CMAX.  Praus and a 7 year old passenger were transported to Bay Area Hospital with serious injuries.

Bridge Work Almost Complete

The Oregon Department of Transportation reports that the repairs and upgrades to the Siuslaw River Bridge are in its final stages.  Crews will be working on cleanup and completing the final construction of walkways and sidewalks.
