Athlete of the Week

The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News, and Coast Radio Sports congratulate freshman basketball standout Braydon Thornton as this week’s Athlete of the Week.  Coach Dylan Perry says Thornton was the only freshman in the Sky-Em league to receive all league votes and was selected to the Sky-Em all defensive team.  In the Viking’s last two games Thornton averaged 15 points per game with 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals.

Honorable mention goes to sophomore Lindsey Long who scored 15 points in last week’s 56-51 win over Elmira

Sky-EM Playoff at Siuslaw

Siuslaw High School is the site of tonight’s Skyem League boy’s play off game between the Marist Spartans and the Marshfield Pirates.  Tipoff at Glen Butler Court is at 6 o’clock.  Only OSAA passes will be accepted.  Adult and Student admission  without ASB card is $5.  High School and Middle School Students with ASB Card get in for $4.  There is a senior 55 and over admission is $3. Doors open at 5:15 PM.

Ducks Drop Second Game Against the Beavers

The #2 ranked Duck women suffered their second loss of the season to interstate rivals the OSU Beavers.  The Beavers held the Ducks to a low scoring game.  Aleah Goodman came off the bench for the Beavers to lead scorers with 22 points.  Sabrina Ionescu had 21 for the Ducks. Final score 67-62 Beavers.

OSU 4-0

Beaver baseball starts the season 4-0 with a 5-0 shutout of New Mexico at the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic in Surprise, Arizona.  Last night’s Duck game against Texas Tech was cancelled.
