Construction Set to Begin

March will be the beginning of several construction projects around the city.  Public Works Director Mike Miller says that March 4th will be the start of the Revision Florence Project along highway 101 as well as the water and sewer project along the north end of the city on highway 101.  In addition to those two projects the airport will also begin construction on its million dollar lighting upgrade for the runway.  The city will give out information and receive questions from the public on Wednesday the 27th regarding the Revision Florence Project.  There will be inconveniences along the 101 corridor during several phases of the construction.  The city will be working with Central Lincoln PUD and others to place existing power, phone and internet services underground.  The meeting on the 27th will begin at 5:15 at the Florence Event Center.

FEC Yard Sale

The Friends of the Florence Event Center will be holding its annual indoor yard sale this Saturday from 8 am until 2 pm.  Individuals and non-profits will be well represented at the sale.  People wishing to host a booth can contact the FEC to see if spaces are still available.  Booth fees begin at $35 and go up to $90.

Sewage Spill: Reedsport

The City of Reedsport reported that they were dealing with a sewage spill earlier this week.  Sewage from a manhole cover seeped onto the street near the 800 block of Juniper street.  The city managed to maintain the leak and clean the blockage causing the spill keeping it from getting into the Schofield Creek nearby.  The city is conducting testing around the area but no stormwater contamination is expected.

Steelhead Fishing

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife says that recent rains have had a positive effect on winter steelhead populations on the Siuslaw River.  Conditions according to ODFW are ideal for the fish and remind people that you can purchase your license and tags online or from a license vendor.  Hunters that had tags for turkey and big game have an extended deadline of April 15th to report their 2018 kills.
