Weather Wont Quit

A fresh coat of snow has blanketed parts of Lane County, including a dusting in Florence overnight.  ODOT crews have been out preparing roads for the morning commute and there are currently no road closures between Florence and Eugene.  Siuslaw Schools are on time this morning and Mapleton Schools will start 2 hours late this morning and Lane Community College in Eugene and Cottage Grove remains closed again today.  Oregon 58 remains closed to all but emergency traffic again today while crews remove fallen trees and snow from the roadway.  The national weather service has issued a special weather statement saying that the coastal areas, including Florence, could see up to an inch of accumulations through noon today and warn that roads could be slick and dangerous through the morning commute.  The weather warning exists from Florence northward.

Pre-Construction Meeting

This evening the City of Florence will host a pre-construction meeting for the Revision Florence project at the Florence Event Center.  The meeting will feature city planners, Oregon Department of Transportation officials, the revision design team and the contractors involved in the project.  City Manager Erin Reynolds says the work is ready to begin

“the staging of that equipment has already begun and is all fenced off and nicely organized across from the event center on the Quince Street property.”

Reynolds says anyone who will be affected by the construction, from business owners to shoppers to people that use that corridor to go to and from work, are invited to come and hear the presentation and to ask questions afterwards.  The meeting will begin tonight at 5:15.

Cold Weather Shelter Open Tonight

Another night of below freezing temperatures will mean that the Florence Cold Weather shelter at the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw will once again open its doors to those who are unable to escape the frigid temperatures.  The shelter will begin receiving guests at 5 pm and rides will be made available from the Siuslaw Public Library, Safeway and Fred Meyer.  Dinner will be served at 6pm.  The shelter will be open until the following morning and will serve a hot breakfast.
