Athlete of the Week

The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate junior softball player Nina Aaron as this week’s athlete of the week for her offensive efforts in last week’s outing against Phoenix.  Aaron went 4 for 6 with a double and a .667 batting average along with 4 walks and a hit by pitch making her on-base percentage .818.  She scored 3 runs with an RBI and a stolen base.  Defensively she recorded 10 strikeouts and had 6 assists.

Honorable mention goes to Alyssa Richards who went 4 for 8 from the plate with 22 putouts and 1 assist with no errors for a perfect fielding percentage.

Viking Athletes Rank High

10 Viking track and field athletes have graced the top 10 as schools go into the spring break holiday.  Topping the list are sophomores Brea Blankenship and Gracie Freudenthal who hold the top times in the 800 and 300 meters respectively in the Sky-Em League.  Junior Hannah Rannow holds the second fastest time in the 1500 meter.

Beaver Ladys Advance

The Oregon State Beaver’s women’s basketball join their interstate rival in the sweet 16.  OSU defeated Gonzaga last night 76-70 to advance.  Mikayla Pivec led the beavers with 19 points.  The Beavers will face Louisville on Friday with a time still to be determined.

On The Diamond

The Siuslaw Vikings are on the diamond this afternoon at 2 o’clock for non league play against Neah – Kah – Nie in Florence. Pregame on KCST is at 1:45, first pitch from Jigg’s Dodson field is set for 2 o’clock over Coast Radio Sports.

Collegiate Baseball

The Oregon State Beavers will take on the Pilots in Portland for non conference Baseball this afternoon at 5 o’clock.  While Oregon will be in be in Utah for the first in a series of games.  This evening the Ducks take on the Brigham Young Cougars at 5 o’clock.
