ReVision Florence Progress

The Revision Florence Streetscape is nearing the halfway point for the Westside revamping.  During the process the contractors for the project have complained to the city that people are parking within the construction zone inhibiting progress.  The city has issued a statement saying that code enforcement will be actively enforcing the No Parking zones.  Megan Messmer, the city’s project manager, said in a statement that the less impact there is to progress the faster the work will be completed.  Messmer also said that the Rhody Days Celebration has been worked into the construction schedule and work will be halted from Thursday, May 16th through Sunday the 19th to ensure minimal impact to the festival and parade.  Good weather at the end of last week enabled the crews to pour more concrete and sunshine and warmer weather is expected to continue through this week, aiding construction efforts.

Planning Commission

The City of Florence planning commission will be holding a work session tomorrow to get an update on proposed housing code changes.  The city of Florence is currently working with the Department of Land Conservation and development for technical assistance in updating codes.  On April 1st the City Council adopted the 2019/2020 work plan. Some of the Planning Commission objectives include updating the Florence City Code, evaluate and amend short term rental policies to ensure adequate workforce housing supply, and explore options for accommodating transitional housing and making necessary code updates.  This is just a short list of the commission’s work plan.  There is a public Open House planned for May 23, at the Florence City hall.
