Viking Baseball; Central Coast Invitational; Cardinal Prey Upon Ducks

Viking Baseball

It was a mixed bag for the Siuslaw Vikings baseball team on Friday.  The Vikings lost both contests to Elmira, but managed a close match in their 5-2 loss in game one.  Coach Shinn said they played a good game but did not take advantage of scoring opportunities.  In game two the Falcons blanked the Vikings 10-0.  The Vikings recorded 13 strikeouts and Coach Shinn said weather also played a part as conditions deteriorated in the bottom of the 5th inning.

The Vikings are scheduled to take on Marshfield tomorrow in Coos Bay.

Central Coast Invitational

Track and Field Coach Chris Johnson said Friday’s Central Coast Invitational was epic. Junior Hannah Rannow posted a personal record in her first place finish in the 800 meter with a time of 2:18.32.  Siuslaw also took the top three positions in the 3000 meters with junior Anne Wartnik taking lead, followed by freshman Rylee Colton and Junior Chole Madden.

Gracie Freudenthal once again topped the list on both the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles.  Sophomore Andrea Osbon and senior Madison Reynolds finished second and third, respectively in the shot put.  Osbon’s toss was 35 feet 2 inches just three inches shy of the first place finisher.  On the boys side sophomore Ryan Jennings finished 2nd in the 400 meters and 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles. Junior Ryan Rendon-Padilla took first place in the Javelin with a 180 feet 9 inch toss, followed in second by sophomore Skyler Loomis who recorded a personal best toss of 160 feet 5 inches.

Cardinal Prey Upon Ducks

#2 Stanford walloped the Oregon Ducks over the weekend.  Friday’s game was a 20-5 shellacking and on Sunday the Ducks were shutout 10-0

Beavers Sweep Cats

The Oregon State Beavers were scheduled for a Friday night game against the Arizona Wildcats, but that was rained out.  A double header was played on Saturday with the Beavers capturing both games from the Cats. 15-3 and 9-3. Bryce Fehmel picked up his 6th win of the season in the early game.  It was his 32nd career victory.
