“We are investigating this, it is an ongoing investigation.  We have Mr. Coverdale in custody and we are currently attempting to identify the other two suspects and anybody with any additional information please give us a call.”

Coverdale will be transported from the Florence Police jail to Lane County Adult Corrections.  There is no information on the victims at this time other than the injuries were non-life threatening.

ODOT Installs 24 Hour Flaggers

Beginning today the Oregon Department of Transportation will be setting up flaggers on OR 126 west of Walton for a full 24 hours a day.  The construction will likely result in some delays of up to 20 minutes as traffic will be limited to one direction at a time.  The work is expected to last until May 10th and will be in effect every day until then, including weekends.  ODOT is installing a passing lane and ODOT’s press release states that contractors are taking advantage of a good weather window to get key portions of the work done before the busy summer travel season.  The project is expected to take until the end of September to complete at a cost of 5 million dollars.

Yachats Man Located

Two canine teams from Lane County search and rescue assisted the Lincoln county sheriff’s department in the rescue of an 83 year old man who had been reported missing near Yachats.  Considerable resources were used to recover the subject including the use of a Coast Guard helicopter that because of time constraints and the forested area involved had to leave their rescue personnel on the ground to hike out with the search and rescue team.  Lincoln county Sheriff Curtis Landers thanked all the partners involved in the rescue.  The man was taken to the hospital.  His condition is unknown at this time.

Fuel Continues Upward Movement

The price of fuel continues to rise around the state.  Marie Dodds with AAA Oregon says while the price ticks up, it is showing some signs of leveling off.

“The last couple of weeks here in Oregon we’ve seen double digit increases and this week we are still seeing gas prices rise but not as dramatically.”

Dodds says it is a matter of supply and demand at this point and the supply being affected by refinery issues along the west coast.

“Here in the west we have had at least 6 refineries, in our region, go off line due to operational issues.”

Dodds says gasoline supplies have dropped for the 5th week in a row, jast week by over 800,000 gallons.  She says that prices should settle down by Memorial Day weekend.
