Results: Wally Ciochetti Invitational

On Friday afternoon junior Hannah Rannow set a personal record in the 1500 meter race at the Wally Ciochetti Invitational.  Rannow beat her closest competitor by 9 seconds with a time of 4:50.75.  Juniors Anne Wartnik and Chloe Madden took first and third respectively in the 3000 meters.  Wartnik’s first place time was 11:30.22.  the girls 4×400 relay team placed second.  Ryan Rendon-Padilla took second place in the javelin behind a 205-02 toss by North Bend’s Ty Hampton with a 188 foot toss.  Sophomore Ryan Jennings grabbed a first place finish in the 300 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 42.08.

Results: Toledo Twilight

Mapleton competed in the Toledo Twilight Track and Field tournament over the weekend.  Sophomore JJ Neece took first place in the javelin with a personal record toss of 153.09 and also finished first in the Triple jump with a distance of 41 feet and ½ inch.

Viking Baseball

Friday’s baseball double header in Cottage Grove saw the Vikings drop 2 more as they near the end of the season.  In the first game they were tied at 4 all after 5 innings and Siuslaw pitcher Gabe Simington had 12 strikeouts, but Cottage Grove scored three in the bottom of the 6th to come out ahead 7-4.  Game two the Vikings were outscored 11-0 in the first two innings and lost 14-3.

Viking Softball

In softball the Viking girls took Cottage Grove to school with a strong showing from freshman Bailey Overton.  Bailey was 4-6 from the plate with 4 runs scored, 7 RBI’s, 2 singles, a double and a triple with 2 stolen bases.  She also walked twice and was hit by a pitch.  Coach Sean O’mara said Overton was also key on defense with several plays that supported the wins.  Siuslaw won both games. 13-2 and 15-10

Collegiate Baseball

The Oregon beavers dropped three straight to Oklahoma State over the weekend making their losing streak the longest of the season at 4.  They were shutout Friday 1-0, lost 5-2 on Saturday and 8-7 yesterday.  OSU is 28-16 for the season.

The Oregon Ducks dropped their series against Arizona in Tucson. 17-6, 9-8 and 28-7.
