Athlete of the Week

The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate sophomore track and field standout Andrea Osbon as this week’s Athlete of the Week.  Andrea  excelled in this past weekend’s district 4A championships with wins in both the Shot Put (37-10) and the Discus (104.7) as well as finishing third in the Javelin with a personal record 100-3.  She will now compete in the State 4A Championships with two finals on Saturday at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham.

Honorable Mention goes to junior Softball player Nina Aaron for her prowess on both the mound and in the batter’s box leading the Vikings to 2 wins in their season wrap up with Marshfield on Friday.

Rhody Run Pre-Registration

Pre-registration for the 40th annual Rhody Run closes at mid-night.  Racers can register for Saturday’s race online at Eclectic Racing edge dot com.  Adult registration through today for either the 5 or 10K races is $20, with a breakdown for younger race brackets.  Race day registration is $5 more and opens at 7:30 Saturday morning.  The 40th annual Rhody Run gets underway at 9am Saturday from the Florence Events Center.  The Rhody Run is a USATF Sanctioned event with all race proceeds going to Florence Habitat for Humanity to help further mission to bring affordable housing within the Siuslaw Fire District.

Non Conference Baseball

Oregon will host Gonzaga at PK Park in Eugene for non conference baseball. First pitch between the Bulldogs and Ducks is at 6 o’clock.

The Oregon State Beavers will take on the Portland Pilots in non conference baseball this afternoon in Corvallis. First pitch at Coleman Field is at 5:30.

Thompson Undergoes Tommy John Surgery

Former Oregon State Beaver and Siuslaw High school pitcher Jake Thompson has undergone surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament.  The surgery is well known as the Tommy John surgery.  He is working on his rehabilitation at the Boston Red Sox facility in Fort Meyers Florida and is not expected to return this season.
