PAC Meeting

The Florence Public Arts Committee is scheduled to meet on Monday at 10 am at Florence City Hall.  The committee will review several items on their agenda and work on action items for future meetings.  The PAC is working on a plan to amend the mural art code to allow more of them to be displayed.  Whether they are privately or publicly funded.  Plans to paint the steps along the Siuslaw River Bridge are well under way with a fall start time.  The Steps along with the Mural on the Central Lincoln PUD building are currently the last items that the city has agreed to fund.  The PAC is working on grants and other sources of funding to continue its work

Pets in Vehicles

With summer season upon us city code enforcement officer Dan Frazier encourages residents to think before taking your pets with you in the car.  Frazier says the city often gets calls about animals left in vehicles, and even on cloudy Florence days the temperature in a vehicle can rise rapidly causing harm to animals.  He says that if you do take your animal with you make sure that you leave water for the animal and leave the windows cracked so that heat can escape and the animal can have fresh air.

Country Music Event at the FEC

The Florence event center welcomes country music star David Frizzell on June 27th.  Frizzell is well known to country music fans with songs like You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma and I’m gonna Hire a Wino to Decorate our home.  Frizzell will be joined on stage by Amy Clawson.  Tickets for the show start at $14.99 and can be purchased at the box office or by visiting eventcenter.org.

Thompson Receives Tourism Ambassador Award

Coast Radio’s Jon Thompson was selected for the Tourism Ambassador Award. The award was presented Wednesday at a luncheon sponsored by Travel Lane County.  The Chambers of Commerce in each community were tasked with nominating an individual or business that made significant contributions to the visitor experience in their community.
