Athlete of the Year 2019

The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate Siuslaw High School junior Hannah Rannow and Mapleton sophomore JJ Neece.  Last night at a ceremony at Siuslaw High School the two athletes were named Athletes of the Year for the 2018 and 2019 School year.  Rannow capped her season with a state championship in the 1500 meters and a second place finish in the 800 meter.  Neece was a three sport athlete and competed in 4 state championship events including the 100 meters, long jump, triple jump and the Javelin.  Neece also was a stand-out football player on offense and defense earning a 1st team all league honors as linebacker on defense.

NCAA Championships

Oregon Duck junior Cardama Baez finished second in the 10k at the NCAA national Championships yesterday. Barely losing to New Mexico’s Weini Kelati.  A handful of lady ducks are still competing in final races today. Oregon is still represented in the 400, 800, 1500 and the 4×100.  OSU junior Ann Wingeleth is also competing in the long jump.  Here event is Saturday.

For the men, Oregon Ducks Cravon Gillespie hopes to win the 100 meters.  Gillespie is in the finals which will be run today at Mike Meyers field in Austin Texas.
