Sam Johnson Named Viking Football Coach

Siuslaw High School has chosen its head football coach for the 2019 season.  2014 Siuslaw Graduate Sam Johnson will be heading up the Viking Squad.  Johnson played football, baseball and basketball for Siuslaw and has been coaching football as an assistant for the last three years at Pleasant Hill.  Johnson tells Coast Radio that this has been his hope all along.

“This is a dream job for me. It’s where I grew up, the people I love, it’s everything I could ever want in a job.”

Johnson says the first time taking the team onto the field will be very emotional.  He said being on the field with Pleasant Hill brought back many memories.  He says this year he will be on the right side of the field.  Johnson will join the math department as a teacher as well

Also joining the Viking Coaching staff is  2013 Siuslaw graduate Lona Dengler.  Dengler will be assistant coach for the Viking Volleyball team and will teach physical education at Siuslaw Middle School next year.  She played softball and volleyball for the Vikings.

Ducks Select Purdue Coach

Purdue University’s head baseball will be donning a Duck uniform next season.  Duck athletic director Rob Mullens announced that Mark Wasikowski will be the new head coach for the Oregon Ducks.  Wasikowski led Purdue to a 39 win season in 2018.  He is familiar with the PAC 12 having served as an assistant coach at Arizona for 10 seasons.
