Peace Health Celebrates 30

July marks 30 years since the opening of Peace  Harbor hospital in Florence.  The history of PeaceHealth in Florence dates back 40 years when they were contracted to provide management services to Western Lane Hospital.  The hospital plans a low key celebration of the event on July 12th.  Ron Green is the chair of the community health board.

“30 years of operating like this in Florence Oregon is quite an asset we have and we’re really excited to celebrate that.”

Green says the hospital is a draw for people looking for a great place to live.

“People move here, people spend money here, people buy homes here because of Peace Harbor Medical Center.”

The 30th anniversary celebration will be held in the food court area of the hospital from 2-5pm on Friday July 12th.  The public is invited to attend.

Executive Session for School Board

The Siuslaw School Board will hold another executive session this Wednesday at 6:30 pm to consider the dismissal or disciplining of or to hear complaints or charges brought against a public officer, employee, staff member or agent as well as an executive session to consult with counsel concerning current or possible litigation.  This come on the heels of last week’s dismissal of Clint Tatum.  Tatum was terminated after he was charged in early May with Criminal Mischief and Criminal Mistreatment in the first degree.  The district attorney has not yet moved forward with the charges against Tatum.  The details of this weeks executive session are not available as executive sessions are not open to the public.  Should action be taken as a result of the meeting, the Siuslaw School Board will open the meeting and proceed in open session.

Kiwanis Tournament

The Florence Kiwanis Club finished up its 2nd annual golf tournament on Saturday.  Club President Dick Shores says the numbers have not yet been tallied, but he feels confident that the club exceeded its goal.  Proceeds from the tournament go to support the Kiwanis Doernbecher’s Children’s Cancer Program.  This year the club expanded on its auction by making items available online and accessible to outside bidders in order to increase the reach outside of the Kiwanis family.
