New Track Was Needed; Ems Shutout Again

New Track Was Needed

According to Siuslaw High School Athletic Director, Chris Johnson, the new track facility at the high school has been a long time coming.  Cuts to budgets over the years have prevented the upgrades, but this past year it was determined that the facility had about a year of usable life left.

“We had a wear coating that was coming off, we have some places where there are just seams that are starting to buckle.”

Johnson says an anonymous donor came forward and with money from the district and donations the track was able to be upgraded.  He said the upgrades were performed by the same company that did Heyward field in preparing for the Olympic trials.

Ems Shutout Again

Despite 7 hits on the night the Eugene Emeralds fell to the Boise Hawks at home.  The Ems left 8 runners on base and failed to score a run as they experience their second shut out in a row.  The Hawks managed 3 runs including a solo homer in the 5th to move into a tie with the Emeralds for the bottom 2 spots of the Northwest League.  Hawks over Ems 3-0
