Ems Drop One to Spokane

Ems Drop One to Spokane

The Eugene Emeralds got behind early last night as they hosted the Spokane Indians.  The Indians managed a run in both the second and third innings to take a 2-nothing lead.  But a four run third inning by the Emeralds brought the Ems back in the game with a two run lead.  The Ems pulled their starting pitcher Didier Vargas at the end of the third inning after allowing two runs and striking out four.  His replacement, Brandon Hughes was lit up by Spokane.  Hughes walked 2, allowed 2 hits and 3 runs for his one inning of work.  Spokane added 4 more runs on the night to take a 9 to 4 lead.  The Ems scored one more in the bottom of the ninth for a 9-5 loss.  Game two of the three game series is tonight at PK Park with the first pitch at 7:05.
