Social Security Scam

In recent days you may have received a phone call from a recording claiming to be from the Oregon Department of Revenue with the caller falsely reporting to be a Social Security representative.  This is just the latest in scams attempting to gather personal and financial information illegally from people.  The call claims that it will have to deactivate your social security number because of suspicious activity.  Department of Revenue Director Nia Ray says the public is encouraged to verify calls from representatives and if you suspect the call is a scam you can contact the Social Security Administration directly by calling 800-772-1213.  You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.  Official stress that you should never give personal or financial information over the phone.

Planning Commission

The City of Florence Planning commission will hold a meeting tomorrow evening to consider granting a conditional use permit to HYAK-Siuslaw Broadband for a temporary office.  Construction on a new office for the internet provider is being constructed on their property on Kingwood street and they are requesting the use of an office trailer while construction is underway.

ReVision Update

Ongoing construction on the Revision Florence Project will continue to limit the northbound portion of Highway 101.  Crews are progressively moving north and constructing new ADA accessible sidewalks and placing utilities underground.  This week the far east side lane will be closed to traffic.  ODOT asks the public to observe all traffic signs and use alternate streets to access old town.  Businesses on both sides of 101 remain open during construction.

School Board Meeting

The Siuslaw School Board will meet this Wednesday at 6:00 pm.  The meeting will begin with an executive session that is closed to the public to consult with counsel concerning the legal rights and duties of a public body with regards to current litigation or litigation to be filed.  During the executive session they will also consider the dismissal or disciplining of, or to hear complaints against a public officer, employee, staff member or agent.  After closing the executive session the board will go into open session for its regular meeting.  Meetings take place at 2111 Oak Street.
