Viking Volleyball

Siuslaw Volleyball Coach Jonathan Hornung begins his fourth season as head coach.  Hornung says the group is small this season but has a great core of returning players including seniors Mia Collins and Elissa Hurley and under-classmates Hayden Muller, Zoe Alberty, Lindsey Long and Delaney Foglio.  Freshmen recruits include Desi Tupua and Hailee Outlaw.  The non-league games begin this evening against the North Bend Bulldogs.

Mapleton Volleyball

Mapleton Sailor volley ball coach Molly Dooley says the team is excited about starting the 2019 season.  Dooley says the team is young with just one senior, but a total of 13 girls make up this year’s squad.  They open up pre-season today with matches against Falls City and Myrtle Point.

Ems Out

The Ems  hosted the Salem Kaiser Volcanoes last night at PK Park.  The Emeralds trailed 5-1 after 4 innings until Edmund Americaan blasted a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 5th to bring Eugene within one run. Going into the bottom of the 9th Eugene scored once more and had the bases loaded until Luis Vazquez grounded out to end the game.  The 6-5 loss for the Ems takes them out of post-season contention.  The Ems and Volcanoes meet again this evening at 7:05 at PK Park.
