Soccer Starts 2-0

The young Siuslaw Soccer team is basking in its second win of the season.  Siuslaw defeated Elmira 4-3.  Coach Londi Tomaro said this win felt different.

” We Scored all our goals sort of in the middle of the game and then just were trying to hang on to the win and not let go.”

Tomaro says the team stayed focused and held off attacks by Elmira.  Yoskar Delamora had a hat-trick in the game scoring 3 of the 4 goals.  Jaxsen Jensen had three assists in the game.  She says the team has some work to do before meeting Marist in their next match, but she liked the teamwork on the field and wants to see that continue.

Sutherlin Outlasts Siuslaw

Last night the Siuslaw girls Volleyball team hosted Sutherlin.  It was a tough match according to head coach Jonathan Hornung.  The team came out strong winning the first set 27-25, but Sutherlin rebounded in the second.

“Second set we came out really flat.  We had a big lead and then gave it up by a long serving stretch by Sutherlin.”

The Vikings took the third set 25-22 and then lost the fourth set 25-22 to set up the tie breaker.  Hornung said a lot of mental mistakes in the tiebreaker ultimately cost them the match with Sutherlin coming out on top 15-13.  Lindsey Long and Hayden Muller, according to Hornung, anchored the back line.  Long had 14 dig and Muller had 36.  He said without their efforts the team would have lost a lot quicker.
