Commission Unanimous

Last night’s Planning Commission meeting saw the unanimous passing of a resolution to reassign the property currently housed by Pro Lumber from Hardware Store to Sporting Goods, ATV sales storage and display.  The Owners of Florence Yamaha, Ed and Debbie Costa, submitted the request stating that their current location no longer can withstand the growth that has occurred and a need for more space was imminent.  Their plan is to relocate their business to the property at 310 Highway 101 with upgrades to the property including block fencing.  Some of the detractors of the change say that there is concern for traffic obstructions like large trailers that may block on street parking or side street parking and subsequently make that section less safe for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists.  ODOT submitted testimony that there is no significant change that would trigger the need for a new approach permit.  The passing of the resolution allows Florence Yamaha to move forward with its plans to relocate.

Fee Waiver Saturday

This weekend is a great weekend to get to out in nature.  National forests throughout Oregon will be waiving day use fees on Saturday to celebrate National Public Lands Day.  The waiver covers picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads, and visitor centers.  There will still be fees for campsites, cabins and other uses.

Gas Prices Unaffected in Florence

AAA Oregon is reporting that Oregon’s price for a gallon of gas rose 2 cents last week, in part as a result of attacks on Saudi Oil fields.  Crude prices jumped 10 dollars to $64 a barrel prompting the rise.  Nationally the price rose more than a nickel  which is the single highest jump since June.  Locally the price of a gallon of regular gas actually held steady and even showed a slight decrease at $2.67 a gallon.

Homegrown Names Brewer

Monday night Homegrown Public House introduced their plans for their new brewing facility along with the person slated to create the beers.  Dustin Basurto received his experience with Rogue Brewery and is looking forward to creating new styles for Florence.  Brew batches will be limited to a single barrel with a 31 gallon yield.  Plans for operations to begin are early in 2020.
