Housing Code Update Informational Session

The City of Florence has announced that they will be having a Housing Code Update Informational Session on November 6th.  The current housing codes are 39 years old and the changing landscape and the need for additional housing have been a catalyst for the change.  It is projected, through the city’s Housing and Economic Opportunities Project, that Florence will need to create 1600 new dwellings in the next 20 years, and changes were necessary to facilitate the need.  The informational meeting will address concerns that are submitted in writing, but there will be no verbal testimony accepted at the session.  The meeting will be at Florence City Hall at 5:30 pm, Wednesday, November 6th.

Collision Sends Three to Hospital

A head on collision yesterday afternoon on Highway 126 about 10 miles east of Florence sent 3 individuals to the hospital.  Two patients were taken to Peace Harbor hospital in stable condition while one was life-flighted to Riverbend in critical condition.  OSP, Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue and Western Lane Ambulance responded.  Highway 126 was initially closed to traffic in both directions causing a long wait for motorists.  One lane opened up after life flight medical left the scene.

No Relief at the Pumps

Marie Dodds with AAA Oregon says we are not out of the woods yet when is comes to gas prices.  She says refinery operations are only at 83 percent which is the lowest rate since September of 2017.  This has caused the largest increases in fuel prices two weeks in a row.  Gas supplies are tight and expectations are that we will likely see more increases in the next couple of weeks.  Prior to last week’s increase it was only the west coast that showed dynamic increases, but last week over half of U.S. States got a sticker shock.
