Entrepreneurial Workshop

This Thursday the Regional Accelerator and Innovation Network in conjunction with local businesses and the City of Florence and the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce will host a special entrepreneur workshop at City Lights Cinemas.  Ariel Ruben, the Rural Venture Catalyst for RAIN says there will be plenty of information for anyone interested in creating a start up business.

“We’ll have lots of entrepreneurs from the area, we’ll have a panel discussion about the state of entrepreneurship in Florence.  The Mayor will be there, the city will be there, it’s going to be a fabulous event.”

The event will begin at 5:30 pm Thursday and individuals with ideas about a business opportunity will have a chance to run their idea by the group.

“We’re gonna allot one minute pitches to anyone in the audience who is interested in either talking about their current business or and idea that they have and see how we can help.”

The event is free of charge and refreshments will be served.

RV Fire

A fire to a RV trailer on Saturday north of town was quickly extinguished by Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue.  The trailer was in a lot behind the south fence of Heceta Self Storage.  The Farnsworth’s on their Heceta Self Storage’s Facebook page thanked the department for their quick response which contained the blaze without damage to the adjacent storage buildings.  The fire happened around 4pm on Saturday afternoon.  No injuries were reported.

101 Delays

The Oregon department of transportation says drivers can expect delays on Highway 101 between the Siuslaw River Bridge and Highway 126 this week as there will be single lane closures in both directions.  Daytime crews are continuing work on curbs and gutters while nighttime crews continue paving and connecting side streets.

Fuel Costs Dip

Over the weekend Florence experienced a dip in fuel prices as demand for gasoline slips slightly on the west coast.  Prices decreased 6 cents a gallon with an average price for regular gas sitting at $3.10 a gallon.  Two local stations decreased their price by 11 cents on Friday.
