Viking Season Ends; Mapleton Comes Up Short; Cross Country Girls Place 2nd in State; Washington Defeats OSU; Collegiate Basketball

Viking Season Ends

Friday evening the Siuslaw Vikings played with poise as the top ranked Hidden Valley thwarted the Vikings hope to move on in the playoffs.  Despite a tough defense, running back Hector Garcia had 176 yards rushing for the Vikings averaging 5.3 yards a carry.  Siuslaw ends the season 6-4.  Final score was Hidden Valley 40 Siuslaw 12.

Mapleton Comes Up Short

The Mapleton Sailors also ended their season 6-4 on Saturday against Camas Valley  the Sailors put up 50 points on the board but allowed 86.

Cross Country Girls Place 2nd in State

The Siuslaw Viking girls cross country team finished in second place in the state championships on Saturday at Lane Community college in Eugene.  Senior Hannah Rannow finished with a season best 18:34 flat to take a third place overall.  Rylee Colton, Brea Blanenship and Chloe Madden all finished in the top 20.  The Siuslaw boys finished in 6th place with Brendon Jensen taking the 5th place spot with a time of 16:14.70 a personal record time for Jensen.

Washington Defeats OSU

The Oregon State Beavers hosted the Washington Huskies on Saturday. The Huskies jumped out ahead of the Beavers and led the entire game.  The Beavers only score came on a Jaydon Grant interception for a touchdown midway through the 3rd quarter.  Final score Huskys 19, Beavers 7.  The Ducks were resting this weekend.

Collegiate Basketball

In college basketball the Beavers defeated Iowa State on Saturday 80-74, the Ducks defeated Boise State 106-75.  For the women, Ducks senior guard Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally scored 30 and 25 points respectively in a stunning victory over the United States Women’s National team 93-86  and the Beavers beat UC Irvine on Saturday 86-57.  The Beavers take on Pacific this evening at 7pm and the Lady Ducks host Northeastern at 3pm today.
