More Road Construction Set To Begin

Construction is set to begin today on an extension of utilities along Highway 126.  The City of Florence is extending the water system from Upas Street to just east of the Vine Street right-of-way.  The project will include the installation of a 12 inch water line and an 8 inch sewer line.  The project was awarded to Ray Wells Incorporated and will cost just under $300,000 to complete.  Traffic delays are not expected to be an issue although, according to City Project manager Megan Messmer, there will likely be some traffic pattern changes associated with construction.

Watershed Council Honored

Last night at the RG Innovation and Talent Celebration in Eugene the Siuslaw Watershed Council was honored with the Small Market Triumph award.  Eli Tome is the Executive Director of the council who for the last 2 years has been working to improve habitats for salmon and wildlife along the Siuslaw.  Tome has produced various videos for the council that are getting attention from outside of the Siuslaw region.  The videos, available on the watershed council’s website feature different aspects of the council’s work to preserve and restore native habitats.
