Fight Spills Over to Social Media

The Florence Police Department responded to a fight on 8th street Thursday evening.  Two parties were involved in what police are calling a mutual combat situation on 8th street adjacent to the Safeway.  Upon arrival police determined that no arrests would be made as a result of the fight, but a woman at the scene was arrested and placed into protective custody for detox due to the level of intoxication.  A press release was issued by Chief Tom Turner, something that is not normally done for an incident like this, but rumor and conjecture over what had occurred had spilled over to social media and Chief Turner decided that there was excessive misinformation about the incident and wanted to clarify it.

Enforcement Numbers In

Official numbers are in from DUII Enforcement over the Christmas and New Year’s holiday.  During the event Florence Police arrested 2 drivers for driving while impaired and 7 citations for driving while suspended and other miscellaneous traffic violations.  According to the City there will be another increased enforcement event during Super Bowl Sunday.  In addition there will also be an increased enforcement activity surrounding seat belt and child seat belt use from February 3rd through the 16th.  Florence Police will use federal funds for this increased enforcement.
