Florence Woman Arrested; Shelter Opened; Special Work Session; Bingo Night

Florence Woman Arrested

A Florence woman was arrested on Friday by Florence police and booked into the Lane County Jail.  44 year old Kimberly Williams is accused of having sex with a minor under the age of 16.  Williams is being charged with felony third degree rape, felony third degree sodomy, and misdemeanor third degree sexual abuse.  Additional charges may be brought as Williams allegedly provided alcohol to the victim and contributed to the delinquency of a minor.  William’s alleged offenses occurred in June of 2019.

Shelter Opened

Freezing temperatures last night prompted the opening of the cold weather shelter in Florence.  Temperatures dipped below 30 degrees as volunteers worked to prepare the shelter for the homeless and those without adequate heating.  Overnight tonight temperatures are expected to return to a more moderate level with lows in the mid 40’s.

Special Work Session

The Florence City Council will hold a special work session tomorrow.  The session will center around annual training in the areas of employment, ethics and public meetings law and emergency management.  The city will also receive ALICE training from Florence Police Commander John Pitcher.  The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 and run until 2 pm.  City Recorder Kelli Weese released the information with the notification that work sessions do not allow time for public comment.  This special work session is for training purposes only.

Bingo Night

A family bingo night has been scheduled to benefit Siuslaw Middle School students that will be graduating in 2020.  The event will be Saturday, February 15 and Cross Road Assembly.  This is a family night event from 6-8 pm.  Student bingo cards are $5 and adults are $10, snacks are provided as well as a valentine dessert auction.
