Vaccine Registration Available for Lane County

Lane County Public Health has opened an online link for individuals to get registered for the coronavirus vaccine.  In less than 24 hours over 10,000 Lane County residents have already filled out the form.  The address for the form is long and Coast Radio will have a link to it on our website and Facebook page.  There is also a link on the lane county website: lanecounty.org/covidvaccine.  Lane County Public Health Liaison Jason Davis says that there is also a phone option coming.

“We will have a phone option coming for those without internet access or who don’t feel comfortable being able to register online.  We would recommend and urge our public as many people as possible to use the online registration form.”

Davis says the phone option will take longer and has to be manned by staff.  Registering online does not guarantee you a specific spot, but it does give county officials a database to work from.  Beginning Monday residents 80 years and older are eligible to receive the vaccine.

Florence Numbers for COVID-19 Rise

Three more cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Florence as of yesterday morning.  Lane County Public Health released the numbers which included 77 new cases county wide.  Florence’s total is now at 151 since the beginning of the pandemic.  Health officials are asking people to be vigilant especially with the upcoming super bowl.  They are asking groups not to congregate that are not of the same household for fear of another super spreader event.  The Super Bowl is generally a time for large groups to meet to watch the game.

DEVNW Moving Ahead

The properties being developed by DEVNW on Airport Road are moving forward with most of the buildings at some point of completion.  There is still a lot of work to be done, but the city recently released information on price and even some financial assistance.  Homebuyers could be eligible for $15,000 dollars in down-payment assistance.  Two bedroom homes will sell in the 180,000-$185,000  range which would bring the total to $165,000 to $170,000 with down payment assistance. To qualify there are some income requirements and a single person can earn up to $39,200 and two individuals can earn up to $44,800.  Information can be found on the city’s website at ci.florence.or.us.

Environmental Services Aide Scholarship

The city of Florence is continuing to fund scholarships through a grant received last year.  The scholarships are for an environmental services aide certificate that can be earned through Lane Community College in Florence.  Sarah Moehrke with the City of Florence says the scholarships are available to a wide range of individuals.

“You don’t have to live in the city of Florence, you have to work in the city of Florence.”

There are about 150 scholarships available and two programs to choose from.  One program gives you a certification to work within the health care community at hospitals or care facilities, the other is a less intensive program that maintains the standards of the health care certification without the medical terminology and specifications.  That certificate would be for retail and restaurant employees.  Moehrke says employers are also being encouraged to support their workers in getting this certificate.

“If you have 90 % completion of your employees in the environmental services aide program we’re gonna give you a window decal so people know you are a gold star business.”

Information on the scholarships is available at the city’s website ci.florence.or.us
