Cross Country Claims State Title; Vikings Over Bulldogs; Mapleton Defeates Falls City; Ducks Sweep Beavers

Cross Country Claims State Title

The Siuslaw Viking Cross Country team ended the season with a State Championship.  Both the men and women’s team were victorious and were brought home with the sound of sirens and a small cavalcade through the streets of old town and up highway 101 to the school.  Chad Hughes and Sam Ulrich finished in the top ten for the men and junior Rylee Colton took the 5th spot overall for the ladies.

Vikings Over Bulldogs

The Siuslaw Viking football team also ended the season with a victory over Sutherlin.  The Vikings defeated the bulldogs 54-12 with Braydon Thornton scoring 4 touchdowns in the game.

Mapleton Defeates Falls City

The Mapleton Sailors were victorious on Friday night beating Falls City 76-48.  JJ Neece rushed 40 times for 452 yards was 4 for 10 passing and had 9 touchdowns – 6 rushing, 1 receiving, one passing and one pick 6.  Neece was also a power on the defense with 15 tackles and 3 sacks and 2 interceptions.

Ducks Sweep Beavers

The Oregon Ducks took the rivalry series over the weekend sweeping the Oregon State Beavers.  Friday and Saturday were 4-1 and 5-1 respectively.  Yesterday afternoon’s game was decided in extra innings.  After tying the game with a three run 8th inning the Ducks finished it with a late hit in the bottom of the 11th for the 5-4 win.  The Ducks are 6-3 in Pac-12 play and the Beavers are 7-5.
