Junction City Bests Siuslaw; Track and Field Athletes Dominate

Vikings Fall to Junction City

The Siuslaw Vikings met with Junction City yesterday the game was ended in the 6th inning after Junction City got 10 runs.  Siuslaw had a chance to extend the game with bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th but failed to score.  Final score 13-3.

Viking Softball  spattered 13 hits over 7 innings and drove in 5 runs including a home run from Bailey Overton, but it wasn’t quite enough to get past Junction City.  After 4 innings the game was tied 5-5.  Junction City pulled ahead by one run in the 5th.  Coach Sean O’Mara says the team is continuing to improve as they reach the halfway point in the season.

Track and Field Excels

Viking runner junior James Smith set a personal record in the 100 meter race coming in second with a time of 12.34 in Cottage Grove yesterday. Sophomore Hunter Petterson set a personal record in his second place finish in the 200 meter with a time of 24.33.  Siuslaw 4×100 and 4×400 relay finished in first place.  Junior Avery Hart finished first in the Shot Put with a throw of 39-7.75 and senior Liam McClellan took first place in the discus with a toss of 119-10 a personal record.  Senior Skylar Loomis took first in the javelin with a season record toss of 160-11 and junior Camp Lacouture took first in the Pole Vault at 12-06.  Lacouture also finished first in the Triple Jump 37-11.

 

For the ladies, senior Gracie Freudenthal took first in the 400 meter with a season best time of 1:04.54.  Brea Blankenship took first in the 1500 meter with a season record time of 5:07.73.  the 4×400 team of Blankenship, Colton, Lacouture and Freudenthal finished first.

In the field events Andrea Osbon continues to be dominant in the shot put, discus and javelin take all three top spots again. in the shot put she had a personal best toss of 39-06 and threw the discus for another personal best of 115-01.
