Overton Unbelievable In Viking Loss

The Siuslaw Viking Softball team finished their season on Saturday against Junction City.  The Double header saw the Tigers dominate the Vikings, but that did not stop one Viking athlete from finishing out her season with an exclamation point.  Junior Bailey Overton,  in game two of the double-header, swung for the fences 4 times and hit home runs in four consecutive at bats driving in all of the Viking’s 8 runs in the 18-8 loss.  Overton also contributed on defense with 5 put outs and one assist.  In the first game Overton went 2-3 with a double, a triple and a run.  The Vikings end their season 1-14.

Double-Header Loss for Viking Boys

Viking Baseball was on the field on Friday.  Their double-header against Junction City ended with both games called early due to runs by the Tigers.  Game one went 4 ½ innings ending 18-4 and game two went 5 innings ending 12-2.  Viking baseball also finished 1-14.

Sky-EM Championships – Track and Field

The Sky-EM Championships were held over the weekend with the Siuslaw Vikings boy’s team taking the top spot.  Viking girls finished 4th overall.  11 boys and 5 girls qualified for the State 4A Championships that will also be held at Hans Peterson Field this Friday and Saturday.  Hunter Petterson took the top spot in the 100 meter race with Sam Ulrich taking first in the 800 and 1500 meter race. Junior Chad Hughes took the 3000 meter race in 9:30.24 with Kyle Hughes setting a personal record in second place with a time of 9:35.21.  The boys 4×100 team took the first place spot and the 4×400 relay team took the second spot.  Junior Avery Hart took first in the Shot Put with a personal record toss of 42-03.75.   Senior Skyler Loomis took first place in the Javelin at 155-06.  Loomis also took second in the Discus.  For the girls Brea Blankenship and Rylee Colton took the top two spots in the 800 meters with the senior, Blankenship finishing in 2:30.89.  Blankenship also finished second in the 1500 meter race.  Colton took second in the 3000 meters.  Gracie Freudenthal was back to form taking the top spot in the 100 meter hurdles with a season best time of 16.12.  She had a season best time in the 300 meter hurdles coming in second at 48.46.  The girl’s 4×400 relay team of Blankenship, Colton, Holbrook and Freudenthal took first with a  time of 4:26.92.   Senior Andrea Osbon finished first in the shot put with a distance of 39-03.  Osbon finished second in the discus and the Javelin setting a personal best distance in the javelin of 109-08.

College Baseball

The Oregon Ducks swept the Utah Utes over the weekend 7-3, 16-3 and 9-2.

The Oregon State Beavers dropped two of three to the ASU Sun Devils losing 9-6 on Friday, 11-5 on Saturday and then taking the win on Sunday 11-4.
