Athlete of the Week; Beavers and Ducks End Run to College World Series; Vikings Take on Marshfield; Mapleton Girls Lose

Athlete of the Week

The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate senior Viking Basketball player Gracie Freudenthal as this week’s athlete of the week.  In a valiant effort Gracie posted two Double/doubles last week for the Lady Vikings including a dominant 18 points and 16 rebounds in their loss to Marist on Saturday.  Coach Ashlee Cole said Gracie showed great leadership this past week and dominated a much taller team on Thursday when the met with Cottage Grove.

Honorable Mention goes to Viking Wrestler Arrianna Brown who was 2-0 in duals against Philomath and Elmira last Wednesday

Beavers and Ducks End Run to College World Series

The Oregon State Beavers ended their run to the College World Series yesterday.  After leading 5-2 in the bottom of the 8th inning Dallas Baptist 3rd baseman hit  a grand slam home run to take a 6-5 lead.  Outfielder River Town added a two run shut in the 8th to put the game away final score Dallas Baptist 8 OSU 5.

The Oregon Ducks were leading the LSU Tigers 7-6 through 7 and a ½ innings.  LSU scored 3 in the bottom of the 8th including a run on a balk.  The Ducks came within one in the ninth but fell short of tying the game.  Final score 9-8 LSU.

Vikings Take on Marshfield

The Siuslaw Vikings are on the Court this evening at Marshfield.  The Viking girls will start off the competition at 5:45 with a 5:30 broadcast time on KCST.  The Marshfield boys are 4-2 in league play and the girls are 3-2 in the Sky-EM.

Mapleton Girls Lose

The Mapleton girls were on the court last night against Mohawk.  Mohawk won 41-11.  Heather Wierichs scored 6 for the lady Sailors.
