Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate senior wrestler Christian Newlan who placed 2nd in the OSAA State Tournament. Newlan, seeded 6th, defeated three wrestlers including the number 3 seed and the number 2 seed which he dedicated to his teammate Hunter Petterson, before falling to the top seed in the state, Connor Kohn from Philomath.
Honorable mention goes to freshman wrestler Dayne Muller who was the first Viking freshman, during Coach Neil Wartnik’s tenure, to place in a state tournament with a 6th place finish.

The Eugene Emeralds are on the road this evening for a 6 game stand against the Hillsboro Hops. Temperatures are expected to be in the 90’s for this evenings game which begins at 7:05
