27 Florence COVID Cases Since Friday

The 8 am morning update from Lane County added another 10 cases this morning making the total case count at 319.  That is 27 cases since Friday in Florence and 58 cases in the past two weeks.   Cases in lane county are up over 125% just since the week ending  July 18th.  There have been almost 3,000 new cases in the last week in Lane County.  The Oregon Health Authority reports that the new cases are mainly in the unvaccinated population.  Lane County’s weekend total was 93 and was the third highest case count reported in the state following Multnomah County with 197 and Clackamas County with 102 cases.  It is not clear yet whether the Florence cases are part of a larger outbreak or community spread.  Jason Davis was not available for confirmation early this morning.  There have been several unconfirmed reports of local cases over the past few days and they are believed to be part of the numbers reported by the county over the weekend.

Vaccination Clinic

This Saturday there is a planned drive through vaccination clinic in Florence.  The event will begin at noon and go until 3 pm and is located at the Siuslaw Middle School.  According to Nancy Berge with Families Connected of Lane County the clinic is open to all coastal residents and there is no need to get out of the car.  There is also no need to preregister.  Members of Lane County Public Health will be administering the vaccinations.

Recycling Event Sunday

This Sunday there will be a recycling drop off for products that cannot be recycled curbside in Florence.  The event will be at the Siuslaw Middle School pavilion and can include #1 bottles and jugs with screw on lids as well as numbers 2,4 and 5 as long as they are clean, dry and the labels have been removed.  The event is scheduled from 11 until 2 pm. Chorus Set to Resume

The Florence Community Chorus has set a registration and rehearsal time in preparation of its Christmas Concert on December 4th and 5th.  community members interested in singing for the concert will meet at the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw on Thursday August 19th at 6pm.  They are requiring all participants to show proof of vaccination.
