Marshfield Topples Vikings

The Siuslaw Viking soccer team had mixed results last night in a back and forth game the JV Squad trailed the Marshfield Pirates 3-2 at the half but rallied in the second to add 5 more goals while holding the pirates to just 3 with a final score of 7-5.  The Varsity squad was a little outmanned as the Pirates.  Coach Londi Tomaro says the team began to lose focus as Marshfield jumped out to a lead, but Tomaro told the team she did not want to see the game end before regulation expired.  Jason Garcia was able to get two goals and kept the game going.  Final score 8-2 Marshfield.   Next up for the Vikings is Monday at Elmira.

Ems One Game Away

The Eugene Emeralds are one game away from claiming the High A West League championship after defeating the Spokane Indians for the second night in a row.  Last night’s game was a pitching duel until the 9th inning when the Ems scored 3 runs on a series of hits by the middle of the lineup starting with Ems 3rd baseman Tyler Fitzgerald.  A walk, a single and a double followed driving in three runs.  A single and a walk with two outs in the bottom of the 9th set up the tying run for the Indians but hopes ended when Ems pitcher Chris Wright struck out Indian’s outfielder Daniel Montano. Final score 3-0.  The Ems and Indians play again this evening beginning at 6:30 from Spokane.
