Vax Clinic

On Saturday Arc of Lane County with the assistance of Lane County Public Health held a vaccination clinic at Siuslaw Middle School.  Initially the event was scheduled from 1-3, but was expanded from noon until 4 pm.  There was still a line of individuals awaiting doses of the vaccine at 3:30.  Officials at the event did not have the total numbers available at the time, but confirmed that the event was steady throughout the day with many individuals getting their booster doses, but a significant amount of first and second doses were also administered.

COVID-19 Numbers

718 is the number of COVID-19 cases recorded in Florence since the beginning of the pandemic.  Friday’s numbers added 6 more to the total and weekend numbers are expected out this morning.  despite the constant increases in the Florence area there are indications that the county numbers will continue their downward trend.  There were 94 cases reported for Lane County on Friday.  There were 1,420 cases reported for all of Oregon.  The state has begun compiling data on the impact of pediatric vaccinations.  While there are no specific numbers yet the Western States Scientific Safety Workgroup is predicting that the vaccines will help in the overall reduction of cases.  Hospitalizations are also decreasing with Lane County having 130 ICU beds available.

Volunteers Needed

The Friends of Florence is experiencing a need for volunteers.  The non-profit helps cancer patients get to appointments in the Eugene-Springfield area for treatment.  They need drivers for the van that does the transportation.  Volunteers are needed for about 4 hours a month.  Volunteers do not need a commercial driver’s license to operate the 15 passenger bus, but drivers will receive training.  COVId-19 protocols are also observed.  A phone number and email address are available on the on-line version of this story. If you are interested in volunteering or have questions call Larry Bacon at 541 997 8180 or email lbacon569@gmail.com.

Council Meeting

The Florence City Council will hold their meeting this evening virtually on the gotowebinar platform.  The meeting will begin at 5:30.  The agenda for the meeting can be found at ci.florence.or.us.
