Vikings Advance To State Championships

The Siuslaw Vikings were Victorious on Saturday despite racking up a lot of penalties.  The Vikings and the Hawks met for the second time this season and the Vikings held on 28-26 for the victory.  The Vikings special teams stopped several two point conversion attempts by La Pine that was the difference in the game.  Camp Lacouture had 21 carries for 168 yards and scored all four touchdowns for the Vikings.  Siuslaw racked up 424 yards of total offense and Beau Erickson was 7 for 10 passing with one interception and 141 yards.  The Vikings were called for 20 penalties for 159 yards.  At one point fans were expressing their displeasure with the lopsided number of calls.  One fan was greeted by Siuslaw Principal Mike Harklerode after an interception was called back late in the fourth quarter.  After the Hawks final score they were poised to tie the game with the potential for overtime, but Braydon Thornton intercepted the two point attempt and the Vikings were able to run out the clock for the win.  Siuslaw now faces South Umpqua which is 11-1 on the season.  The game will be this Saturday from Cottage Grove at 11am.

Viking Runners Match Up

On Saturday Sam Ulrich finished third in the Men’s 5,000 meters at the Pacific Northwest Regionals with a time of 16:30.6.  he was followed by Chad Hughes in 9th place with a time of 16:38.3.  Kyle Hughes finished 19th.   Brayden Linton and Jacob Blankenship finished 59 and 62 respectively.  The men took third place in their division.  Addison McNeill was the top runner for the ladies with a 26th place finish.  The freshman finished with a time of 20:49.1.  Corduroy Holbrook finished 39th with a time of 21:06.2 followed by Macy McNeill in 42nd place at 21:15.4.

Utes Dominate Ducks

The Utah Utes on Saturday stunned the Oregon Ducks by dominating the field on both offense and defense.  The Utes scored 38 points and held the Ducks to just one touchdown which came on the opening drive of the second half.  The Ducks dropped to 11th in the AP rankings and are out of the CFP.

Beavers Remain Undefeated at Home

The Oregon State Beavers remain unbeaten at home this season as the Beavers outscored the Arizona State Sun devils 24 -10 on Saturday.  The Beavers are now 7-4 on the season and 5-3 in the Pac-12.

College Basketball

Other scores over the weekend in basketball the Oregon State Beaver men’s basketball team lost a close one to Princeton yesterday 81-80.  The Beaver women’s basketball team starts the season 3-0 with a win over Bakersfield on Saturday 82-51.  The Duck women lost to the #1 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks 80-63.

The Duck men are in Las Vegas to take on Chaminade this evening beginning at 5:30 on KCST.
