Search for Stabbing Suspect

The Lane County sheriff’s office was involved in a search for a stabbing suspect on thanksgiving evening.  The report did not give details on the stabbing only that they were searching for a male suspect described as being between 5’8” and 6’0” tall with long blonde hair and face stubble.  The man was seen headed into the dune recreational area at the Goose Pasture ATV staging area on south Jetty Road.  The last update from law enforcement was at 6:51 last night.  It is not known at this time if they have apprehended the suspect.

Commercial Crabbing to Start on Time

For the last several years commercial crabbers have had to wait to begin their hunt for Dungeness crab.  But not this year.  Early testing of the crab has determined that the levels of the toxic demoic acid is low and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife says the December first date will signal the opening of the season.  ODFW says commercial  vessels can begin dropping gear on Sunday and draw them up beginning on Wednesday.  Recreational crabbing has been ongoing along the coast with surprisingly good results according to the owner of the Bridgeport Market, Jay Cable who monitors fishing trends at the port.

Booster Clinics Return

After 2 weeks of pediatric vaccination clinics Lane County will return to offering booster clinics for adults on Tuesday.  There has been no confirmed clinic for the Florence area, however clinics at the Lane Events Center will begin scheduling appointments next week.

City to Consider Tax Break for Multi-Unit Development

City offices will be closed today as part of the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.  Office hours will resume on Monday.  There is also a special session of the City Council that will take place on Monday evening at 5:30.  The council will consider the Multi-Unit Tax Exemption Program.  If approved the program can provide up to 10 years of tax exemption for developers of property that utilize a multi-unit plan.  Developers must provide proof of a financial need for the exemption.  The council is continuing to meet virtually through the gotowebinar platform.  A link to the meeting is available at
