Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate senior Mapleton basketball player Opal Burress as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Opal has been a leading scorer for the Sailors this season and capped it off in last week’s 41-17 win against Alsea. Opal scored 17 points and led the team in steals too she was selected to the All-Tournament team.
Honorable Mention
Honorable mention goes to senior Mapleton boys basketball player Joe Shepard who
led the Sailors in scoring with 17 points in their loss last week to Alsea.
Tournament Rescheduled
The Newport basketball tournament scheduled for today and Wednesday has been moved to Thursday and Friday of this week due to travel conditions brought on by the recent winter weather.
Beavers Game Postponed by Weather
The Oregon State Beavers game against Sacramento State has been postponed once again, this time due to travel conditions. It is anticipated that the game will be rescheduled for January.
