Vikings 2-0 To Start Season

The Siuslaw Vikings baseball team started off their season with a pair of wins yesterday in Sutherlin.  The Vikings started off game one with a 3 run first inning.  Viking pitcher Jason Garcia pitched four innings allowing only one hit and one run on offense he contributed two hits and two RBI’s.  Beau Erickson came in in relief allowing no hits.  The pair combined for 13 strike outs. In the 7-1 win.  Henry Rankin, behind the plate, had a great game according to coach Tom Shinn blocking several balls in the dirt and throwing out a Sutherlin runner at second base.

Game two for the Vikings was a little closer with Sutherlin taking a 4 run lead, but late in the game the Vikings exploded with a 3 run 6th inning and a 4 run 7th inning to overtake Sutherlin. 7-5.  Viking Isaac Garza was credited with the win for the Vikings.

Viking softball was cancelled.

Vikings Honored

Avery Hart and Jane Lacouture were noted as all-league honorable mentions in Basketball.  Lacouture was also noted as an all-league defensive player.

Ducks Move to Round Two of NIT

The Oregon Ducks will move on to the second round of the NIT after a comeback win against the Aggies of Utah State.  the Aggies were up by as much as 7 in the first half but midway through the second the Ducks had erased that deficit and took an 8 point advantage  and led by as much as 18 earning Dana Altman his 300th career win.  Oregon will now face Texas A&M on Saturday with a game time to be determined.
