Covid 19 Numbers Low – 9th Street Project Hampered – Mapleton Schools Seek New Chief

Vaccination and Testing Clinic Wednesday

Case numbers for COVID-19 have been relatively low along the coast for several weeks with one new case reported (1509) as part of Monday’s daily briefing, but the City of Florence in conjunction with Lane County Public Health continue to offer vaccination and COVID tested every two weeks in Florence. City Manager Erin Reynolds says there has been a renewed interest in the clinics.

“If it’s been long enough since your first booster you can get that second booster that’s kind of driving some of that interest.”

The Clinic will be from 10 until noon and Reynolds recommends that you register for a time for your vaccination or your test by visiting lanecounty.org/vaxclinics.

9th Street Project Delayed by Weather

The city of Florence had hoped that it would be finishing up the 9th street project. The final piece of the puzzle was paving, but weather conditions will not cooperate this week, according to Florence City Manager Erin Reynolds)

“This week’s going to be a really stormy week so we will not be doing the paving on 9th street this week.”

Reynolds says they will keep the community informed as to when the final phase will be completed. Residents can monitor updates on the city’s Facebook page or at ci.florence.or.us.

The search for a new school chief in Mapleton reaching critical point. Bob Sneddon filed the story:

After a widespread search the selection of a new superintendent for the Mapleton school district could be nearing a close. School board chair Mary Ellen Mansfield said they have narrowed the field to a single top candidate. The board will meet privately with that person Wednesday evening, 6:00 PM, during an executive session. If the board and that top candidate reach an agreement that evening he or she would then return next week to meet key members of the staff and community. Mansfield said if they cannot come to an agreement the board has the option to either reopen the search and seek additional applicants or they could hire an interim superintendent who would oversee the district for the next school year, thereby allowing them to possibly broaden the search. I’m Bob Sneddon reporting .

The Mapleton School Board meets Wednesday, April 20th at six pm at the high school.
