Viking Baseball

The Siuslaw Vikings were in Coos Bay yesterday for a baseball game against the Marshfield Pirates.  The Vikings managed 4 runs on 4 hits but it was not enough to overcome the onslaught of Marshfield.  The Pirates managed several multi-run innings scoring 11 with 6 hits.  3 errors by the Vikings also contributed to the loss. Viking softball also faced the Pirates losing 16-1.

Track and Field

The Mapleton Sailors hosted a track meet yesterday and senior Joe Shepard led the Sailors in the triple jump with a first place distance of 38’10”.  Sailor senior Opal Burruss took second in the triple jump for the ladies at 25’7” and her sister, freshman Helen Burruss finished 5th in the long jump at 10’9.25”

The Vikings competed in a JV track and field event yesterday in Cottage Grove.  Senior James Smith finished second in the 100 meter and set a personal record in the 200 meter with a time of 24.42. finishing in first place.  Senior Camp Lacouture finished first in the 300 meter hurdles at 45.11.  junior Jonathan Rose took first place in the shot put with a distance of 42’7” and first place in the Discus with a toss of 135’9” a personal record.

Rivalry Baseball

The Ducks and the Beavers squared off on the diamond yesterday both teams managed 8 hits but is was the Beavers that came out on top 4-2.  It was the first of 5 games the two teams will play.
