School Returns; BBQ; Hot and Dry

School Returns

School buses return to the streets filled with students this week.  Mapleton and Siuslaw Schools are back in session.  It is important to remember to stop for buses when their lights and signs are out.  While the fines can be hefty the safety for students is the main priority.  Vehicles traveling in either direction must stop.  There will also be increased traffic in and around the schools with parents and students driving.  In addition walking traffic will also be evident.  Watch for students in crosswalks across highway 101 and on Oak Street.

BBQ

To accentuate the first day of school the City of Florence has planned a BBQ at Miller Park for tomorrow afternoon.  Students and the community are invited from 3-7 pm and food will be available while supplies last.  The City will be highlighting the school resource officer program.

Hot and Dry

With two major fires burning in Oregon and hot dry weather expected later this week it is important to remember that Lane County’s Burn ban is in effect.  Fire danger is high for western Lane County and temperatures by Friday are expected to be in the 80’s for the Florence area.  The National Weather Service is forecasting sun and clear skies overnight for the next week with the warmest temperatures for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
