Fire Danger Extreme
In the midst of an extreme level fire danger this weekend Western Lane County Fire and Ems had several calls involving the potential for dangerous results. More than a half dozen calls were related to fire or illegal burning from Friday through yesterday. Fire danger level is still extreme as we enter the week. Smoke and ash were prevalent in the air over the weekend too. Currently in Oregon there are more than 2 dozen wildfires burning including the Cedar Creek fire in eastern Lane County which is considered 0% contained as of this morning. With current restrictions in place there is no operating of mowing or gas operated items like chain saws. One spark could cause a fire to start. City Council
The Florence city Council meets this evening. On the agenda are two items that deal with the Florence Municipal Airport. Both have to do with pavement rehabilitation. The first is a resolution to authorize the city to accept a $119,196 grant from the FAA from the Bi-partisan Infrastruction Law and the other is to approve a fee proposal in the amount of $127,440.65 from Central West Engineering to perform engineering and related services for the project. The city will also consider approving a liquor license for Homegrown Public House and Brewery. City Council meets tonight at 5:30 at City Hall.
School District Meeting
The Siuslaw School District will meet on Wednesday first with an executive session that will be closed to the public with the regular meeting that begins at 6:30 pm open to the public. The district has instituted new guidelines for public comment and is asking those who wish to speak not repeat items already covered by a previous speaker. Individuals still have to submit a request 24 hours prior to the meeting with a copy of the prepared remarks included in the request to 97j@siuslaw.k.12.or.us. Questions about the complete list of guidelines should be directed to the school district office.
Rods N Rhodies
Despite conditions over the weekend the 14th annual Rods N Rhodies car show was well attended. Rods N Rhodies board president, Gary Cargill, said there were 99 cars that participated in the invitation only event on Saturday. Cars from as far away as Vancouver, Canada attended the two day event. The event raises money for Transportation Solutions that provides repairs for working local residents with hardships that prevent them from having safe and reliable transportation to and from work and school.
