Ballot Measure Postponement Possible

The Oregon office of Attorney General released a statement yesterday that it will be seeking a postponement of some of the provisions in the Oregon Ballot Measure 114 that is scheduled to go into effect this Thursday.  Attorney General Rosenblum says that local law enforcement agencies across the state have said that they will not have the infrastructure in place to handle all of the permit applications that are expected by the date.  Rosenblum says it will be approximately 2 months before law enforcement would likely have everything in place.  She says if a judge agrees with the postponement it will then take effect in February.

School Board Meeting

The next meeting of the Siuslaw School District Board of Directors is coming next week on December 14th.  One item that will be on the agenda is expected to be the swearing in of two new members.  Riley Olson and Tiffany Rasmussen are both 11th graders at Siuslaw High School.  They will be fully vested board members with a couple of exceptions.  They will sit at the table with the seven elected board members and be invited to participate in any discussions.  But they won’t be able to vote on matters before the board, nor will they participate in “closed door” executive sessions.  Board Chair Bob Sneddon said the addition of the students is expected to bring a different perspective to board discussions, adding that the  board approved a resolution in October allowing the inclusions with the goal having two students each school year.
