Viking Wrestling
Saturday’s Nick Lutz Memorial Tournament turned out some champions for the Siuslaw Vikings. Several took the first place spots in their weight classes. Dayne Muller in the 220 weight class, Mason Buss in the 195, Jacob Mann in the 182, joel Sissel in the 170, Hunter Petterson in the 132. Petterson defeated wrestlers from Philomath, Junction city, Camas Valley and Douglas.
Viking girls placed second, behind Lakeview. Macali Lade was the lone champion. Jane Lacouture placed 2nd. Rosa Velasco-Mendez, Abby Riggs, and Danin Lacouture all placed 3rd.
Viking Basketball
The La Pine Hawks defeated the Siuslaw Vikings on Friday night in Basketball. The boys scored 38 to La Pine’s 51 in the early game. The Girls fell 43-20.
College Hoops
The Oregon Ducks showed the Arizona Wildcats why home court makes a difference in Oregon. The Ducks went back and forth early with the Wildcats, but took the lead in the middle of the first half and never looked back stunning the #9 team 87-68. Duck starters took most of the weight of scoring with Jermaine Couisnard, N’faly Dante and Will Richardson combining for 63 and Nate Bittle adding 10.
The OSU Beavers were on the court Saturday against the ASU Sun Devils. ASU squeeked by the Beavers 74-69.
