Athlete of the Week; Honorable Mention; Klampe Leads First Round of Golf State Championship; Vikings Fall to Lions

Athlete of the Week

The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate sophomore golfer Ryan Klampe as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Ryan led the Vikings to the Special District Championship with a two-day score of 152. The Vikings took the tournament by 41 strokes. Klampe has led the Vikings to six consecutive wins and an undefeated season.

Honorable Mention

Honorable Mention goes to sophomore Maya Wells who won the 800 meter race at Friday’s Wally Ciochetti Invitational with a Personal Record time of 2:29.45 beating her previous best by more than a second.

Klampe Leads First Round of Golf State Championship

Ryan Klampe holds a three stroke lead over the field of players in the OSAA Boys Golf State Championship at Tokatee in Blue River.  Klampe finished yesterday’s round at one under par.  Tied for second place is Brock Drury of St. Mary’s, Benjamin Tieu and Matthew Chan both of Oregon Episcopal. As a team the Vikings are currently in sixth place.

Vikings Fall to Lions

The Siuslaw Viking baseball team was tied with the Cottage Grove Lions into the top of the 9th inning at home yesterday when the Lions scored two runs off of closer Zak Nilles to take the lead and earn the win.  The Vikings now await word from OSAA as to where they will land in the post season.  That schedule will be released tomorrow.
