Viking Playoffs; Headed to State; College Baseball

Viking Playoffs

The Siuslaw Vikings will head to Grants  Pass on Monday the 22nd for the 3a state baseball playoffs.  The schedule was posted last night.  They will be facing the North Valley Knights of the Far West League.  The Knights are ranked 16th and have a 13-11 season record and were 10-8 in their league.  The game will be on Coast Radio beginning at 4:15 in the afternoon.

Headed to State

Several Siuslaw Vikings will be headed for the State Track and Field Championships next weekend based on the results of yesterday’s district championship.  Kyle Hughes, Justin Allen and Will Johnson all reached the qualification mark in the Pole Vault.  Kyle Hughes took the top spot with a 14’ even pass. Allen set a pr with a second place finish at 12’4” and johnson made the cut with an 11’10” vault.  Jonathan Rose qualified for the Discus with a toss of 138’ and Kale Jensen qualified for the long jump after his first place finish.  Freshman Allison Hughes qualified for the state championship by getting in under the time qualifier with her third place finish in the 3000 meters at 20:56.99.  Danin Lacouture also qualified for state taking first place in the shot put with a toss of 30’11.5” and junior Jane Lacouture qualified in the javelin with a 97’8” toss.  Results in today’s competition will determine which Vikings will represent Siuslaw in the remaining track and field categories.

College Baseball

The Oregon Ducks drop game one to the Utah Utes. 12-5 game two will be this evening from Salt Lake City.  Someone forgot to tell the Western Carolina Catamounts that the Oregon State Beavers don’t like losing.  Last night the Beavers scored in 7 of their 8 innings.  Capitalized by 5 home runs with Forrester and Turley each having 2 multi run swats.  Final score 20 – 7.  The games continue tonight from Corvallis at 5:35.
