Three Buttes Fire

Fire crews are preparing land around the Herman Peak Communications site near the Three Buttes Fire.  The facility is not currently in danger of being overcome by the fire, but as it is critical for emergency communications officials want to be sure that there is plenty of defensible space around the area.  According to the Oregon Department of Forestry the fire is still about 144 acres in size and is considered 0% contained as of last night’s report.  However, they report that size estimates are from Saturday and have not yet obtained a more current view of the area.  OFD reports that while the weather has been favorable there has not been significant enough rain to quell the fire.  The Three Buttes fire is located about 11 miles north east of Florence.  There are currently 171 firefighters battling the blaze.
