Three Buttes Fire

The latest information from the Three Buttes fire is that while there is no containment, there is now significant growth either.  The fire is covering about 144 acres according to the Oregon Department of Forestry.  Fire crews are working tirelessly to form a barrier around the area and the fire has remained within the current barriers for the past couple of shifts.  Despite favorable weather conditions the report says that there is not enough moisture to soak through the canopy to the ground below and the vegetation is very dry.  Officials say the direct fire suppression efforts is allowing time for heavy equipment to construct control lines.  The fire has been burning 11 northeast of Florence since August 25th and was caused by a lightning strike.

Aquarium Begins Remodel

Two galleries of the Oregon Coast Aquarium will close today as renovations and construction begins.  Construction is expected to continue through spring of 2024 and new exhibits will be opened for the summer.  All other exhibits and play areas will remain open through the construction.  The new space will be dedicated to sea jellies of the pacific.
